One in seven Kiwi children (aged 2-14 years) live in households that are food insecure. NZ has hundreds of charities and agencies set up to supply food directly to these families, but they cannot meet the demand, a survey this year estimated demand has increased 165% since the start of Covid.
30% of food produced globally is going to waste. This food waste accounts for 8-10% of total manmade greenhouse gas emissions.
