About us
Social Socks is a programme for whole classrooms of primary school children, that helps build social skills and emotional resiliency, developed in schools in Feilding and Palmerston North over 10 years. Each weekly session lasts one hour and it lasts 7 weeks. It is fun, interactive and the tamariki love it and learn. Big puppets act as teachers and introduce the theme, and then the children get in their small groups with their very own sock puppets. Mirrors, workbooks, music, movement, mindfulness help the tamariki learn. Volunteers love helping out in the small groups and the teachers interweave the learning in their lessons during the week. Social Socks has been adapted for three age groups and enhanced with Te Reo Māori. It is now being digitalised so that the programme can be delivered through NZ. Feedback from principals, teachers, children and parents is consistently positive with many amazing stories. It is now being run through whole schools with the values imbedded into the School Curriculum. This is so needed throughout Aotearoa.
