About us

The Spay Day HRM Society is a Registered Charity located in Halifax, N.S. Formed in 2011 to address the cat population explosion in the Halifax area. There are 3 ways in which we work to provide humane population control for cats. We assist low income people to have their cat spayed/neutered. We partner with the SPCA and the City of Halifax on a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) project. This project focuses on feral cats – cats who have been born outdoors or abandoned and are not socialized to humans. Using this method the cat is humanely trapped, taken to a veterinarian to be spayed/neutered, and returned to its colony where it is provided food and shelter by a caretaker. Any kittens who are trapped will be socialized and adopted. We rescue and adopt out cats and kittens, many coming from the economically challenged neighbourhoods where we conduct our spay/neuter program. We spay/neuter all our rescues so they don't add to the cat population. People should donate because we survive on fundraising and it's helps with our Vet costs. All fundraising events have been canceled due to COVID-19.
