Redwings was established in 1984 and has grown into the UK’s largest horse sanctuary caring for over 1,500 rescued horses and donkeys. We are a national charity, based in Norfolk and operating from ten sites in England, the Welsh borders and Scotland; including five visitor centres, open to the public and free to visit. Our work is 100% funded by charitable donations from the public. Welfare is at the heart of everything we do. Our dedicated rescue teams work tirelessly to save mistreated equines and bring them to safety. No matter how complex their health or behavioural needs, every rescued horse or donkey is offered a loving home for life at our sanctuary; this is what makes Redwings unique. Our expert vet team operate our own horse hospital with an x-ray room, operating theatre and intensive care stables. Our skilled behaviour team help new arrivals, many of whom are semi feral or have endured terrible neglect, learn to trust human beings again. Another 700 horses and donkeys live in loving Guardian homes. By rehoming healthy horses with the potential to live happily outside Redwings’ paddock fences, we create space within the sanctuary to help more animals in desperate need.
