New Zealand Chihuahua Rescue (NZCR) is a registered New Zealand charity (CC55119), founded in 2017, operating throughout New Zealand. We are a breed-specific rescue dedicated primarily to assisting Chihuahuas and Chihuahua-crosses, though we also support other toy breeds when capacity allows. Each intake is carefully prioritized based on the dog's medical or behavioral needs, available funding, and foster home availability.NZCR provides comprehensive care to every dog we take in, limiting the number of dogs in our care at one time to ensure quality attention. Before adoption, all dogs are de-sexed, vaccinated, microchipped (registered with both the NZ Companion Animal Register and local council), and treated for fleas and worms. They also receive any necessary veterinary care, including dentals, blood tests, x-rays, and specialist procedures when needed. In some cases, we have fundraised for advanced surgeries to ensure our dogs receive the care they deserve.We have assisted dogs from various backgrounds, including shelters, other rescues, breeding or show kennels, and private owners or estates needing assistance. Our goal is to ensure all health concerns are addressed before adoption or fully disclosed to adopters matched to each dog's unique needs.
