Welcome to Lincoln Park Horse and Human Rehabilitation Centre where rescue horses rescue humans. It was established from a passion to help defence veterans and horses in need. As a child of a Vietnam veteran I experienced firsthand the impact PTSD has on an individual and their family. Due to this it inspired me to help by using my passion and skill of rescuing horses in need for equine therapy. Equine therapy is a great alternative to the more clinical counselling usually offered to veterans. Studies have shown that being around horses can affect human brain wave patterns and adjust moods. The horses we use in our program are real rescues that may have suffered neglect, abuse or come via RSPCA seizures. They too may have similar symptoms as PTSD. They are rehabilitated using only gentle natural horsemanship methods. This process is included in our therapy program for the veterans. Having a husband in the RAAF who has also deployed to Afghanistan, we understand the inner workings of defence life and the struggles it can sometimes present to both the veteran and their family and we want to offer a lending hand. We also offer equine therapy to the general public with all proceeds going towards the care of the rescue horses. Equine therapy promotes awareness using interactions with horses. Current research has shown that close proximity to horses changes human brain wave patterns to a more positive and therapeutic space.
