L'Arche Australia provides support and resources to developing and sustaining communities of L'Arche in Australia. L'Arche exists to empower people with intellectual disabilities to make their unique and significant contribution to Australian society. Community life in L'Arche is characterised by relationships of mutuality between people who live with the experience of disability and others who share life and friendship with them in faith based communities. Over the past 40 years L'Arche Australia has supported foundations in Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Hobart. In 2018 our focus is on the development of emerging projects in Adelaide and Perth. Existing communities in Sydney and Melbourne are supporting developing groups in the Hunter Valley and Bendigo. L'Arche Australia is a member of the International Federation of L'Arche, which has 152 member communities in 37 countries. In solidarity with communities in countries such as the Philippines and Bangladesh, L'Arche Australia offers financial and human resources to these communities.
