About Rescat

Rescat is a feline welfare charity founded in October 2019 in Bahrain under the Cat Society of Bahrain and Pet Animals (CR 137/G/T.A.KH). Since January 2026, it's also registered as a charity in the Netherlands under Stichting Rescat (KVK 99625512).

What Rescat Does

The organization operates across three core areas:

• Rehab and Rehoming - We assist rescuers who take in abandoned, injured, and mistreated cats, provide physical and emotional rehabilitation, and match them with suitable adopters via our foster network.

• Education and Advocacy - We promote cat sterilization, humane treatment of strays, and responsible pet ownership. We campaign against backyard breeding and animal cruelty.

• Population Control - We run Trap-Neuter-Return-Monitor (TNRM) programs in Bahrain to manage stray cat populations humanely. All our work is self-funded and we rely primarily on donations.

How We Work

Rescat operates entirely through a network of foster homes rather than a physical shelter. Rescued cats stay in foster care long enough to recover and for us to find the right match with an adopter. To date, we've rehomed over 700 cats, with 250 sterilized through our programs.

Who We Are

We're run by volunteers and funded through donations. Our team and community of supporters, adopters, and fosters span internationally, with many of our cats rehomed to the UK, Germany, France, and the Netherlands. We're always looking for new fosters and donors to expand this network.

We go beyond moving cats to new homes. We're working to improve welfare for Bahrain's stray cat population and build better relationships between people and strays.
