About us
San Pedro City Ballet believes that anyone who wants to dance should have the opportunity to dance, regardless of income, ethnicity or body type. Our most famous student, Misty Copeland, was discovered through our outreach programs and went on to become the first African-American female Principal dancer at the prestigious American Ballet Theatre in New York. Created in 1994 by nationally recognized dancers and teachers Cynthia and Patrick David Bradley, San Pedro City Ballet brings dance education to underserved and underrepresented students of Los Angeles at no cost to the students. Through a variety of outreach programs, we bring 10-week dance workshops to underserved schools, dance assemblies and mini workshops to schools, and perform a full scale production of the Nutcracker with free tickets for underserved students. Students who wish to pursue their dream of dance even more receive scholarship support to attend classes for free at our after-school in-studio sessions. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to experience dance and discover their passion. As one of our mentor dancers shared about meeting with our new dance students: “I told them not to limit themselves because of money. When you have a passion for something, there will always be a way to get to where you want to go!"
