Paws Assisting Veterans is dedicated to reducing Veteran suicide rates through the placement of highly trained service dogs free of charge to the Veterans. Our program is uniquely positioned as a one-on-one training environment for Veterans from communities typically underrepresented in the military Veterans ecosystem and those systemically disadvantaged. Currently we provide custom trained service dogs to Veterans severely impacted by PTSD, Military Sexual Trauma (MST), TBI, and physical disabilities. The training is custom organized for each Veteran to allow Veterans so severely impacted by their disabilities that group training camps (the usual arrangement for service dog placement) would be impossible for them. We also provide lifelong support and unlimited follow up training for all our Veteran teams. In order for PAVE to be able to provide our individualized services to underrepresented communities on a one-on-one basis, we aim to increase outreach to those communities plus outreach to mental health providers who have the ability to recommend our program to these underrepresented communities. We print and provide informational materials to mental health providers and organize presentations. Our team of Veteran Community Advisors have pointed out the urgent need for this, so the most vulnerable from the Veteran community can access service dogs.
