About us
Our non-profit charity, The Reading People/ Capital Area Literacy Coalition, provides free services for those seeking help with their literacy skills. The majority of our clients are low/no income, and we serve students, from young children through adult ages. We provide several thousand free books annually, in many genres, at our on-site free library. In addition, we provide books to local schools, non-profits and community organizations such as Kiwanis, City of Lansing and UM-Sparrow Hospital. All of the books are received through private donation and local booksellers. We help people to learn to read, write and spell words (Basic Reading), children's literacy help (Read To Succeed) based onsite, in local elementary school and local low-income properties, English Second Language, for those who are now citizens in our country but need further English skills and finally, Volunteer training, tutoring and other tasks.
