About us

Pipal Tree is a very special charity that is transforming the lives and prospects of the poorest, most marginalised and stigmatised people in Nepal. These include children from the “untouchable” communities in rural areas, the victims of rape and young deaf people who are nicknamed “lato” (“stupid”). We offer child protection and rehabilitation at children’s refuges in Janakpur, south Nepal. In Kathmandu, we provide education and skills training to girls and women to ensure that they can earn a living for themselves and their families and become leaders of the future. We are restoring community forests through an ambitious reforestation programme that is to the benefit of the environment and creation of livelihoods from the sustainable use of forest products. Nepal is the ninth most affected country in the world from the climate catastrophe and it is the poorest people who are in the frontline of fires, floods and droughts. We are working to make these communities more resilient while ensuring that when disasters do happen, we are there as first responders. In 2020/2021 we have provided food relief to thousands during COVID lockdown. In short, we save lives.
