About us
In an increasingly busy urbanised world where many of our precious flora and fauna are at risk of decline, Natureland Wildlife Trust provides incredibly important opportunities for all members of the community to interact with and learn about nature. Nurturing a connection to the natural world is crucial for children's development, promotes overall wellbeing in adults and helps ensure nature is cared for so that it may exist in abundance for future generations.
Interactions with animals, time spent outside, learning about flora and fauna and immersing oneself in the sounds, smells, sights and textures of nature all play a role in enhancing one's hauora (well-being). Natureland provides inspiring environmental education to schools, homeschoolers, adults and elderly.
As well as this, we also have a breed to release conservation programme to help repopulate Aotearoa’s precious native bird species. We currently breed and release South Island Kākā, Yellow Crowned Kākāriki and Pāteke.
Our passionate keepers work very hard, but due to being a charitable trust we rely on contributions from the public and other funders. Every small contribution helps us to do the amazing conservation work we do. After all, we are a part of nature and we're all in this together.
