Gumtree Greys is a Melbourne-based, independent greyhound rescue dedicated to helping gentle dogs transition safely from the racing industry into loving homes. We operate independently of the racing industry and rely on the generosity of donors, volunteers and supporters who believe that every greyhound deserves dignity, compassion, and the opportunity to be valued as a companion.

When a greyhound’s racing career ends, their future can be uncertain. They have never experienced the everyday comforts of a quiet home, a soft bed, or the reassurance of belonging to a family. Yet with patience, kindness and the right support, these sensitive dogs flourish, revealing affectionate natures, quiet loyalty, and a great love of companionship.

Since 2013, our volunteer-led community has provided a lifeline for greyhounds in need. Every dog we accept receives veterinary care, behavioural support and the opportunity to adjust to home life through our foster care program. By getting to know each dog as an individual, we thoughtfully match them with adopters who can provide a safe, stable and lasting home.

Our commitment does not end at adoption. We offer ongoing guidance and support to help both dogs and adopters feel confident as they begin life together. We believe rescue is not simply about finding homes quickly, but about creating lifelong bonds built on understanding, trust and care.
