Thousands of greyhounds are destroyed every year in Australia. At Gumtree Greys our mission is to rescue greyhounds, place them into appropriate foster care and ultimately have them adopted into loving, permanent homes. They are many charities in Australia and many Grants, but such little funding is available specifically for animal charities. For a rescue group such as ours that takes a seemingly endless number of unwanted dogs from a wealthy greyhound racing industry, but receives no financial support whatsoever from that same industry, My Giving Circle is an important potential means for us to receive funding and continue our hard work. We desex and immunise the majority of dogs that come to us and also provide them with veterinary attention for other ailments including rotten teeth, pre-existing fractures, infections, flea and worm infestations. We often pay for transport of the dogs from remote locations, along with paid kennelling when we have no available foster carers.
