Our Story

Our story really started in June 2012.  Our founder was a volunteer with an Italian Greyhound rescue.  She got a call from the organization about an Italian Greyhound named Grace in a shelter in Virginia.  They sent a photo and asked if she could foster.  She said yes without even thinking.  So, she made the 3 hour journey to the shelter to pick up Grace.  When she walked in and saw Grace, she couldn't help but to cry.  Grace was so beautiful and so sad at the same time.  She was skin and bones, her skull was bashed in and she had pus coming from her infected mouth  She was also heartworm positive and had mammary tumors all over her mammary chain.  Megan began the trek home, excited to show  Grace a life of love.  On the way home, she stopped to let Grace go potty and let her feel the sunshine on her face.  Grace was in bad shape.  Her body was so beat down.  On the way home, Megan stopped at the rescue director's home.  They made the decision to take Grace to the vet immediately.  The vet felt it was best to let Grace cross peacefully.  So, she held Grace and watched her leave this world.  Grace forever changed her and the way she saw the world.  Fast forward a few years and Megan met a woman named Tammy, who shared her love for the seniors and (her second favorite breed), min pins.   So now, we have a special place in our hearts for the seniors and for the sick.  We do take adoptable dogs, but our hearts are with our seniors.  We hope you will join us on this journey of ours.  Grace's Legacy is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
