We are 2 retired rock climbing women who have lived in Mexico for many winters and witnessed the horrible conditions of the dogs of Hidalgo Mexico. In 2011, we decided to change that when we found a dog chained to a tree and almost starved to death.
We named her Fiona and became determined to change things for the better.
We began asking climbers for donations and by July 2012, we had becomes a registered 501c3 charity.
In April 2013, our dream became a reality. Fiona Animal Refuge opened its doors with 19 kennels, office and surgery.
To see this beautiful facility really happen and the town embrace our vision is a miracle.
On a yearly basis we treat approximately 4000 dogs, build 350 doghouses and provide the only veterinary services in the area.
