About us
It is alarming that 7% of Australian parents will lose a child in their lifetime. They will then carry a grief which is not acknowledged or supported by government agencies or society. Karen and Karol (CMIG founders) formed a friendship because they each lost their middle children. They were able to have conversations about their grief and children that no one else could provide. They found Connecting Mothers in Grief to provide the same comfort and connection that they offered each other, for others across Australia. Many bereaved mothers don't resonate with traditional mental health support while others can't access it because of their financial situation or their remote location. CMIG provides free membership to a peer led community which offers support and compassion without judgement. There is an online closed group which honours the children and the mothers' journeys. There are regular zoom meetings with expert presenters on grief, wellness and ways to honour and connect with the children. There are regular in person meetings across Australia so the mothers can connect with each other and form friendships. These events are very emotional because the mothers feel safe to share their experiences and leave feeling understood. CMiG has developed a free six week program called Shifting from Dark Days where grief is explored intimately in a small group. This has been a powerful and transformative experience for those who participated. There are also retreat days, group walks and immersive projects on gratitude, creativity and inspiration. The healing journey for these mothers is personal. CMIG offers them a touchstone to honour their child and their grief authentically in a space that is loving and supportive so that hope and light may be possible again.
