Amnesty International has a vision for a world in which every person enjoys all of the human rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international human rights instruments. In pursuit of this vision, Amnesty International’s mission is to undertake research and action focused on preventing and ending grave abuses of these rights. Together, this vision and mission guides our kaupapa in Aotearoa New Zealand. The purpose of AIANZ is to contribute to the global mission by fearlessly building movements for human rights change within Aotearoa and Asia-Pacific. We investigate human rights abuses and identify solutions to the systemic issues that marginalise groups of people. Amnesty International lobbies governments and other powerful groups, making sure they keep their promises and respect international law. By telling the stories of the people we work with, we mobilise millions of supporters around the world to campaign for change. We support people to claim their rights through education and training. Amnesty International is funded by generous supporters. We are independent of any political ideology, economic interest or religion. No government is beyond scrutiny. No situation is beyond hope.
