About us
Wildlife Care Association takes in, free of charge, wild animals and birds that are injured or orphaned. Our goal is to keep them wild while they are treated or given time to grow bigger so that they can be released back into the wild environment from which they were found. We serve the greater Sacramento region, including the surrounding counties of Yolo, Placer, San Joaquin, and Sutter.
WCA has helped more than 300,000 animals in need since operations began in 1975. In 2023 WCA took in 7,000 animals from more than 125 zip codes. We take animals from members of the public, local animal control agencies, and state and federal wildlife agencies, all free of charge.
In 2024 we are on track to equal the number of animals cared for last year. However, due to inflation the cost of food, medications, building supplies and equipment have all risen exponentially over the last few years. Along with the use of volunteers and interns, payroll costs have also risen to ensure animals are properly cared for. While we have made repairs and improvements to some of our caging, there continues to be a need for additional caging for different species and capital project funding to insulate our facility and to repair or replace aging equipment.
