At any given time, there are approximately 400,000 children in foster care with 1,200 entering the system daily. In addition to the abuse and/or neglect that they may have experienced prior to entering foster care, these children undergo significant trauma throughout their time in the system. Foster youth suffer from severely limited access to resources as well as disproportionate rates of anxiety, depression, and PTSD. TWR works to address the challenges and inequities facing this vulnerable population through the provision of resources such as our unique sweet cases, bicycles, skateboards, birthday supplies, STEM kits, and superhero boxes. Additionally, TWR hosts special annual events, the most notable being our sibling reunification events in which hundreds of siblings who have been separated in the foster care system are reunited for a day of fun at theme parks such as Disneyland and Six Flags. Other events include nationwide teen shopping sprees, holiday stocking initiatives, feeding families campaigns, and more. Lastly, with 50% of former foster youth facing homelessness and/or incarceration within 18 months of exiting the system and only a 3% college graduation rate, TWR offers two comprehensive programs to aged-out foster youth in an effort to enact measurable change.
