The Friendship Cabin
About us
The Friendship Cabin is a charity formed in 2019 and became a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) in May 2019. It is run by volunteers, who organise a number of social, recreational and educational activities three times per week at venues in the Glenrothes area.
The aim is to provide mental and physical stimulation and help to promote independence, health and well-being of participants and the sessions are designed to improve the quality of life of the people who attend as well as fostering community spirit and inclusion and making people feel a valued part of a group. The sessions are open to any age group and aims to tackle social isolation amongst vulnerable adults. The attendees are also given advice and support if required on accessing benefits and other appropriate services. Volunteers ensure The Friendship Cabin is responsive to participants’ needs and interests by having informal discussions at each session. Volunteer training is developed around the needs of individuals using the sessions. As part of our desire to make The Friendship Cabin a welcoming place, light refreshments and a warm meal are provided in a very relaxing atmosphere.
Until the relaxation of COVID-19 regulations, The Friendship Cabin continues to retain contact with its members by visits where possible, regular telephone calls to those in isolation, thrice weekly meetings on Zoom, grocery shopping, and the distribution of activity packs which contain various brain teasers and basic colouring items.
The Friendship Cabin requires funding so it can strive to maintain its main objective which is to provide a service that combats loneliness and isolation and tries to integrate them back into the community with the need to deal with physical and mental health problems before they arise.
