The Balinda Children’s Foundation Canada supports orphaned and vulnerable children in Uganda by providing them with the basic necessities of life including food, shelter, clothing, healthcare, education, and livelihood support. Our goal is to empower them to become self-sufficient and productive members of society, thereby contributing positively to their communities.The Balinda Children’s Foundation Canada was founded as a compassionate response to the cry of Uganda’s millions of children orphaned by HIV/AIDS. Our program first and foremost focuses on meeting the children's basic needs so they can begin to dream and think about their future. Children are given clothing, food, feminine hygiene producs etc. Having provided for their essential needs, we invest in their long-term education by ensurining they attain quality education to be able to compete in the global world. We do this by paying for their school fees and giving them school supplies. We currently have children at different levels of education - Primary, Secondary and Tertiary institutions. Our education program is multi-faceted whereby every child is exposed to a trade/life skill to equip them with skills meant to help them run their own enterprises to raise income. Our goal with this program for the youth is to develop capacity and income generation at the family levelWe also focus on healthcare by ensuring children receive preventivite education about health living and disease prevention as well as access to treatment when needed. We provide families with mosquito nets as well as education around malaria prevention. Our healthcare intervention program is preventative focused through trainings and seminars because we realize education/information dissemination is key to ensuring long-term health. Youth are trained on HIV prevention, proper hygiene practices, reproductive health education to ensure they are knowledgeable about their bodies and how to best protect/care for them.We are also focused on empowering girls because of the challenges they face. For many girls in Africa, education isn’t just important for a brighter future, it’s critical to their survival. Yet, girls often drop out of school simply because they can’t afford feminine hygiene products. We have a special focus on educating and empowering girls to help them overcome the many obstacles they face.Lastly, we support children and their families to build capacity and start businesses in order to become self-sustaonable. Every family in our program has a small business to raise income to cater for their own needs. Families have piggeries, poultry and livestock business and the goal is for them to build capacity in order to be able to cater for their own needs without external resources.
