Small Pet & Cat Care, previously known as CATCARE, a very small rescue with just 2 members was founded in 1996, and became a registered charity in 2007 We are a No Kill charity that provides healthcare and re-homing services to unclaimed stray/abandoned, sick/injured cats and unwanted small animals throughout Hull and surrounding areas. We do not discriminate between cats needing help and believe whatever their background they still deserve a second chance, consequently over the years we have accumulated a large feline family, who through no fault of their own have not found homes. Some of these cats have sponsors who pay a small donation on a monthly basis, this helps with the cost of special diets and regular treatment for non-life-threatening illnesses. We do not have a rescue centre; all of the rescued animals live in foster homes. Funds are used solely for food, litter, vet bills & Insurance, which is required by law. All other costs for such things as specialised and general cleaning products, rubbish removal, transport, admin, heating/lighting, telephone/Internet etc. are all paid for by the trustees/fosterers. We offer a strict homing policy which involves a pre-arranged home visit to assess individual circumstances and to complete a short application form. This ensures we can, hopefully, offer a rescued animal to suit existing lifestyles and environment. Sadly, omitting this procedure could result in animals being returned due to incompatibility with their new owners. We believe that getting this new relationship right at the start, both adds to the enjoyment of owning your new pet and reduces additional stress and upset to the animal. (It is not about re-homing as many as we can as fast as possible, but ensuring they stay in the home they have found.) We ask for a minimum donation of £80 for a cat or a kitten, adoption for two at the same time £150 This is not a purchase it is to help towards the cost of neutering, ID chipping and flea/worm treatment etc. All cats and kittens are treated for fleas and worms. Adult cats are neutered, and ID chipped before being re-homed Kittens will be neutered and ID chipped when they are old enough, at no extra cost to the owner. * Kittens are usually homed in pairs. * We do not home kittens to families with small children. We have had to suspend our testing/vaccination program. FeLV/FIV - Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus are life-threatening viruses that are potentially contagious, or that could shorten a cat's life span. We recommend testing all new cats that you take into the home. Unfortunately, we are unable to carry out the tests now due to lack of funds. (We do however take advice from our vet and test any cat/kitten he thinks necessary.)
