Sikh Volunteers Australia (SVA) is a not-for-profit volunteer organisation focusing on reducing distress by providing free food to disadvantaged and needy individuals & families within the Victorian community. Sewa (Selfless service) is at the heart of Sikh Volunteers Australia (SVA), aiming to reduce distress in the community by providing daily free hot meals to the disadvantaged. In the most recent case, SVA has mobilized volunteers in Melbourne to deliver free meals to groups impacted by the global COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, in 289 days (18 Mar to 31 Dec), SVA delivered 142,000 freshly cooked meals to the doorstep of people in need. In 2021, during different lockdowns, 129,340 newly cooked meals were provided. In the Year 2022, during various crisis responses (Floods in Lismore NSW, Floods in the Central Victorian region, and regular support for Disadvantaged members of the community), a total of 58000 meals were cooked and delivered. So far in the Year 2023, 16000 meals are cooked and delivered to the doorsteps of needy people. Apart from this, SVA's food van serves approximately 700 meals every week at Frankston, Dandenong, Nobel Park and Hastings. Sikh Volunteers Australia supports the local community with food and has formed a safety WEB for many disadvantaged individuals and families.
