Save a Gato is a nonprofit, volunteer-run organization dedicated to improving the lives of homeless and community cats in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Our work focuses primarily on Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), providing veterinary care to cats in need, caring for our established community cat colonies, and rescuing cats and kittens who are injured, sick, abandoned, or suitable for adoption.

Through TNR, we work to humanely reduce the population of free-roaming cats while ensuring that community cats receive ongoing care. Cats who can thrive in homes are prepared for adoption through veterinary care, including spay/neuter, vaccinations, testing, and other necessary treatment, before being matched with responsible families in Puerto Rico and the mainland United States.

Save a Gato is powered by volunteers and supported by the generosity of donors, fosters, adopters, and animal lovers. Every donation, adoption, foster home, and volunteer hour helps us continue protecting and caring for the cats of Old San Juan.

Our mission is simple: to improve the lives of community cats through compassion, responsible population management, veterinary care, rescue, and adoption.
