About us
We utilize the activities with our horses to help heal, to give opportunities to be victorious over challenges, to embrace relationships with love and faith and strength, to 'open doors' to new pathways of development through the amazing movement and sprit of the horse! We work with children and adults of all ages and diagnoses and are privileged to see miracles in the barn! First steps, long awaited words, smiles of confidence and comfort and joy are among what we see in the barn routinely. This program survives because of donors such as yourselves. We serve up to 150 families each week, some come from up to two hours away, from 14 months to age 84. We get referrals from the medical community, educators, other organizations but mostly from those who have come and had their lives touched here since 1999. Our volunteers are no less blessed as they serve our families, they too are recipients of amazing new relationships, of love and gratitude for their help each week. Most of our young staff start as riders here and become volunteers and some become staff, and some go on to become professionals in the medical and education fields to serve others! We work with organizations and universities throughout our state and beyond, but those relationships are about people, they do not generate income to the program, so we need your help to continue serving those who come! We have 15 therapy horses who give so very much and their care is reflective of just how much we owe them for all they give. This care is not inexpensive, the costs however are worth every smile, every moment of unexpected victory, every time a family is shown something precious, special and sometimes long awaited by their loved one. It is worth every cent to keep this program alive a well! We have been well blessed through the 25 years since we started! Many donors over the years have created this heated indoor arena, area for trails and outdoor arena and play area. Builders and their vendors, equine professionals, area businesses, individuals, annual fundraisers and some grants continue to help the program through even tough times of recent years. The year round program includes therapeutic riding, therapy using the horse as a treatment strategy, sport and recreational riding (we host an integrated 4H horse club and compete with about 40 riders every year locally), job coaching, internships, and research. We bring our horses to community events to give back to churches, schools, senior organizations, universities, and the list goes on! We are a community here at CHUM, a huge family of God to all who come to be served!
