Rural Youth and Adult Literacy Trust
Rural Youth and Adult Literacy Trust

The Rural Youth and Adult Literacy Trust is a non-profit organisation that assists adults and teenagers nationwide but especially those living in rural areas (or who are otherwise isolated) with reading, writing and numeracy. Tuition is free and the 1:1 coaching is done over the phone, Zoom or face to face. The lessons are personalised to the student and at their pace.

As the demand for our services continues to increase, we face a significant challenge. Without adequate funding for wages, we run the risk of limiting our ability to provide support to a greater number of students. Currently, our dedicated staff works tirelessly to deliver high-quality education, but their efforts are constrained by the limited hours they can commit due to financial constraints. It is crucial that we address this issue to ensure we can meet the growing needs of our student community effectively. 11.8% of New Zealanders have literacy levels BELOW those needed for everyday life.Everyone should have the opportunity to improve their literacy, regardless of where they live in New Zealand. Literacy is a right, not a privilege!
