Parramatta Mission operates a service called Meals Plus, which is predominantly run by Volunteers with the support of two Case Workers and a Chef. The service provides emergency relief and on-going support through the provision of; meals, referrals, hygiene packs, telecommunication assistance, food parcels, essential and travel cards as well as having laundry and shower facilities available onsite. The past year has presented major health threats and created financial disadvantage to a large portion of the community, and Meals Plus has continued to operate, not closing down once, as the service is essential for people being displaced. We have observed many negative social impacts in the community, including rates of domestic and family violence, mental health, as well as the on-going health crisis and economic fallout. The importance of being able to offer a meal in a safe and welcoming environment ensures our guests feel comfortable in asking for further help and assistance.
