Morgan County Humane Society
About us
The Morgan Duke Conservation Society is a respected nonprofit 501(C)(3) organization located in Orange County, New York. Situated just an hour from the Catskills and three hours from the Adirondacks, the society is dedicated to preserving and protecting the natural beauty and integrity of a wide range of wilderness areas, including beaches, forests, National Parks, State Parks, and local parks. These areas are increasingly threatened by human-made environmental challenges such as pollution, habitat loss, and damage from foot traffic. The society is committed to addressing these issues and mitigating the negative impact of human activity on the environment. To achieve this goal, the organization’s volunteers play a vital role in supporting conservation efforts. These efforts include removing trash from trails and beaches, creating wildlife habitats, replanting seedlings, and educating the public on the importance of environmental stewardship.
The society was founded in 2013 by its current President and Founder, James Sullivan. A passionate lover of the great outdoors, James has spent many summers in the Hudson River Recreation Area in the Adirondacks and has witnessed firsthand the damaging effects of human activity on the environment. With his determination to make a difference, James has transformed the society from a small operation with just six members to an organization that spans three states and boasts a large and dedicated volunteer base of more than 90 individuals. The society was named after James’ two beloved dogs, both of whom were passionate about the outdoors and often accompanied him on his adventures.
