About us
Baw Baw Animal Welfare is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending animal suffering in Sri Lanka through rescue, rehabilitation, prevention, and lifelong care. Founded in 2015 and officially registered in 2019, the organization works to create a future where no animal is left to suffer on the streets and every living being is treated with compassion and respect. It is supported internationally through Baw Baw Animal Welfare USA, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
Our work focuses on:
Emergency Rescue: Responding to calls involving injured, abused, abandoned, and critically ill animals, providing immediate rescue, veterinary treatment, and rehabilitation.
Sanctuary Care: Providing lifelong care for permanently disabled and vulnerable animals that cannot survive on their own.
Spay & Neuter Programs: Conducting large-scale sterilization campaigns to humanely reduce Sri Lanka's stray animal population and prevent future suffering.
Farm Animal Rescue: Saving cows and other farm animals from slaughter and placing them on carefully selected free-range farms where they can live safely and peacefully.
Community Outreach: Promoting responsible pet ownership, compassion toward animals, and sustainable solutions to improve animal welfare across Sri Lanka.
Driven by the belief that every life matters, Baw Baw Animal Welfare combines emergency response with long-term solutions to address the root causes of animal suffering. Through rescue, medical care, sterilization, education, and sanctuary services, the organization works every day to build a more compassionate future for Sri Lanka's animals.
