LongRun Thoroughbred Retirement Society is mandated to provide Ontario's thoroughbred racehorses with a happy and dignified retirement once their days at the track are over and to educate horse people and the general public as to the merits of our program. We currently care for close to 70 retired equine athletes who are either being rehabbed (if necessary) and retrained in the hopes of finding them a loving, adoptive home as a riding or show horse or even a pasture pal, or being afforded lifelong sanctuary and possible inclusion in the Equine Assisted programs we offer. Our horses are donated by loving owners and trainers who want to make sure their charges are well cared for post career and LongRun, because of the support we receive from the racing industry and horse lovers in general, is able to offer these horses a safety net even after they leave our hands. LongRun is the only equine charity in Canada accredited by both Thoroughbred Charities of America and The Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance. We have recently partnered with champion jockey and long time supporter, Eurico Rosa Da Silva, in offering people help with any problems they might be experiencing via his Equine Experiential programs. LongRun and Eurico have hosted groups from Youth Without Shelter and Halton Acquired Brain Injury and were recently featured on Breakfast Televidsion.
