Since 2007, Good Friend, Inc. has become a trusted name in autism education. We develop research-based training and original short films for the purpose of creating autism awareness, teaching acceptance of differences, and fostering empathy for people on the autism spectrum. Our approach is unique. We focus on educational interventions for the neuromajority (those without brain-based differences) in schools, businesses and beyond, in order to create accepting cultures which are supportive and inclusive of autistic and neurodivergent individuals. School-Based Programs Good Friend lays a strong social-emotional foundation to establish cultures of acceptance where bullying and harassment are incompatible with inclusion. Using positive and accurate language to explain autism, we teach that each person has unique abilities and talents, regardless of their neurology. Programs for staff and students, delivered both in-person and online through Good Friend Academy, help neuromajority children understand what autism is and is not, gain comfort in interacting with classmates on the spectrum, engage in healthy peer-to-peer relationships, and apply UPstander tools to stop bullying and disability harassment. School-based programs can be customized to meet the needs of educational institutions as well as community groups. Employer Training Programs Good Friend’s Neurodiversity at Work training is designed to help companies understand neurodiversity in the workplace. The training is anchored by a short documentary film featuring the lived experiences of autistic and neurodivergent people in the workforce. E-learning modules expand upon the stories of those featured in the film, with commentary by subject matter experts, to cover a wide range of employment topics. Delivered both in-person and online, this training is appropriate for any company seeking to start or expand DEI initiatives or inclusive practices to meet the needs of workers with non-apparent disabilities. By educating employers how to best attract, hire, engage, and support neurodivergent talent, we aim to improve employment outcomes for neurodivergent workers. Neurodiversity at Work launches in 2024 with additional content to be released in 2025.
