Global Forest Generation’s (GFG) mission is to accelerate ecosystem restoration over vast, connected landscapes by empowering local leaders and communities with the resources they need to succeed. Forests are receiving fresh attention for their contributions to climate change mitigation and biodiversity conservation, but there are major obstacles hindering concrete, long-term forest ecosystem restoration, including: the lack of project capacity and quality worldwide, especially on-the-ground implementers; the lack of transparency, traceability and quality control in international reforestation projects; and the lack of diversified, long-term funding resources and partnerships. Most significantly, local communities are often excluded from decision-making processes and implementation, when they are the true stewards of native forests. GFG was founded in June 2018 to fill this niche and address these obstacles.
Acción Andina is our first flagship initiative. It was co-founded in 2018 by GFG and Peru-based conservation organization ECOAN as a Latin-American led, native forest landscape restoration initiative aiming to restore and protect one million hectares of high Andean, native forest ecosystems in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela over the next decades.
