Food for People, the Food Bank for Humboldt County, serves 21,000 low-income children, families, and seniors countywide each month – 12% of our county’s population. The need for food assistance is growing as our neighbors face higher food prices, fuel costs and the end of increased CalFresh and other COVID-era benefits. Food for People is meeting this increased need thanks to the generosity of our supporters. Food for People's works includes a network of countywide food pantries; programs to address food insecurity for senior, homebound and disabled individuals; child nutrition programs that help local children 18 and younger who experience hunger; food waste prevention; a network of partnerships which provides food to nearly 100 local organizations who serve low-income individuals; work readiness training for individuals looking to gain stills; efforts to improve community health including seasonal Free Produce Markets and a Mobile Produce Pantry that travels to remote, rural communities identified as “food deserts”; community education and outreach programs that provide nutrition education and outreach to connect clients with programs that help combat hunger and decrease local poverty; and an emergency food program that address emergency food needs in our community be it a pandemic, economic downturn, or natural disaster.
