This Pandemic has changed our lives and the life of everyone around us in ways we can’t begin to imagine. At ElderDog Canada our number one priority is the safety of our community. Keeping everyone safe means some volunteers will not be able to help during this time, some seniors will be more desperate than ever, some dogs will need to find an emergency foster, some of our leaders will need support and everyone will need to do what they can, while practicing social distancing, social isolation measures, safe supportive practices and most of all being kind and supportive. ElderDog exists to support senior-dog companionship and, during this period of increasing isolation, that support has never been more necessary. We know that, for many seniors, ElderDog is like family, perhaps their only family, and they rely on us for a variety of dog care supports. ElderDog volunteers continue to safely go above and beyond to coordinate and offer support and to prepare for additional assistance that will be required in the weeks ahead. A caring community is made up of caring individuals. Our ElderDog community is an inspiration and one in which we all play a vital role. This crisis will not last forever but the way we conduct ourselves during a national crisis will be the measure of our true humanity. We will continue to be kind, be respectful, be helpful and be there for those who are most vulnerable in the coming days, weeks and months and to help keep love in the home.
