Danny Robertshaw and Ron Danta never planned to start a dog rescue. In 2005 just after Hurricane Katrina, Danny and Ron saw countless dogs who had been left stranded. Compelled to do something, they embarked on a mission to save as many dogs as possible. They rescued 600 dogs who were stranded on roof tops, drowning in flood waters, starving and terrified. Recognizing that placing the dogs in shelters would add to their trauma, Danny and Ron decided to bring them into their personal home and horse farm in South Carolina where they could live as a family with people who would love and care for them until they were adopted. Since then, Danny and Ron have turned their personal home - which has since come to be known as “the Doghouse” - into the ultimate safe haven. It’s where forgotten dogs can find love, hope and a chance for life and a future. We take in dogs from shelters where they were facing pending euthanasia. Some are rescued from natural disasters. Others arrive with injuries from dogfighting, puppy mills, abuse, and neglect. Each dog receives a wellness check, is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and groomed. But most important, every dog is treated like part of the family until adopted. There are dogs in the kitchen, dogs in the living room and dogs in every room in the house! You may have heard about the Rescue when an award-winning documentary film called “Life in the Doghouse” was released https://lifeinthedoghousemovie.com/index.html or their book called Forever Home was published https://dannyronsrescue.org/forever-home.
