Shaw Pit Bull Refuge (Shaw PBR) is a small, independent animal rescue and sanctuary in Columbus, Mississippi, dedicated to giving pit bull–type dogs and farm animals a safe, permanent place to call home.

Shaw PBR began as a rescue focused on helping dogs in need and has evolved into a refuge and sanctuary for animals who need a place to stay for life. The refuge is currently closed to future intakes, allowing the organization to focus its limited resources on the animals already in its care.

• 🐾 Provides lifelong care for pit bull–type dogs, many of whom are older, medically needy, or less likely to be adopted.

• 🏡 Offers sanctuary rather than simply temporary shelter — animals who remain at Shaw PBR are cared for until adoption when appropriate, or for the rest of their lives.

• 🐷 Cares for sanctuary farm animals through sister rescue, Porkchop’s Phat Farm, including pigs, goats, chickens, ducks, geese and other farm residents.

• ❤️ Provides daily food, veterinary care, medications, enrichment, housing and hands-on attention to every animal.

• 🚫 Does not currently accept new animals, transport animals north, or rely on a traditional foster network. The focus is on responsibly caring for the animals already entrusted to them.

Shaw PBR isn't a large national organization with a big staff or a constant stream of adoptions. It's a small, grassroots refuge where many of the animals have become permanent family.

A large part of the mission is caring for the dogs who are often overlooked — the elder-bulls, special-needs dogs and long-term residents who may have spent years waiting for someone to choose them.

The philosophy is simple:

We are here for good.

That means donations aren't simply helping an animal get through a shelter stay. They're helping provide food, medical care, comfort, safety and a good life for animals who may be depending on Shaw PBR for the rest of theirs.
