CitizenBlue is a social enterprise charity formed by 8 leading NGOs focussed on taking practical steps to reduce the amount of litter and marine debris affecting the Australian coastline. Initially, our focus is on installing a new range of custom bins to capture litter around urban hotspots where large volumes of beverage containers (the largest source of litter volumes) are evident (e.g. Darling Harbour, Bondi Beach) and have the contents processed at our automated depot earning income under the container deposit scheme. Our initial service offering is focussed on three niche markets which are intimately connected with the litter stream: o Public Places; o Major Events; o Hospitality and Entertainment. This will see us operate a range of service offerings that will deliver public place recycling and litter abatement programs that have not previously been viable. We are also providing employment opportunities for individuals experiencing extreme disadvantage using our automated depot as an on the job training facility. As a new business we rely on donations to fund our capital purchases which in practical terms means equipping more community and school groups to help stop litter from entering our beautiful waterways.
