As a direct response to the social isolation currently being experienced by vulnerable young people in Australia due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus Big Brothers Big Sisters is asking for support. Immediate action is required due to the virus, isolation, depression and family conflict issues are further exacerbated by the current situation which is placing enormous stress on young people in vulnerable families putting them at risk of, increased mental and physical health problems. BBBS has an existing online platform developed due to the increasing demand for long term mentoring. Funding would allow us to have a mentoring coordinator to manage the platform and support matches during this pandemic. FOCUS AREA - Young people experiencing vulnerability due to multiple family issues including, financial stress, ill health or family violence. It is Big Brothers Big Sisters intention to utilise the e-mentoring platform in regions/areas we know are experiencing the most financial stress and vulnerability due to their family situation. Big Brothers Big Sisters Australia acknowledges the challenging time that people in our community and our world are currently facing due to COVID-19. There is a need for social connection, friendship and support now more than ever, as people experience these uncertain times.
