About us

Wider Communities Food Relief was founded in 2020 by Pita Eru Karena. His vision was to provide a service that could feed the many people in need in the wider community of Perth, and as a bonus save food from landfill. We currently have 50 volunteers who collect & distribute food that was destined for landfill. Each volunteer covers their own suburb. We cover the area between Perth City (NOR) and Two Rocks (Perth’s most Northern suburb). We collect from around 50 stores, which include: Coles, ALDI, IGA, Woolworths, SecondBite, Share The Dignity, Nando’s and private bakeries. In the last month alone, we have collected over 35,000 Kg of bread and veggies/fruit/dry goods/surplus items, and have distributed it out to people in need. Which includes: people whom are struggling to make ends meet at home, solo-parents, large families, aged care homes, homeless shelters, foster families, childcare centers, school breakfast clubs, sports clubs, mother’s groups, charity organizations, churches, DV victims and refuges. Sadly, we lost Pita in December of 2022. With your support, we wish to continue to grow Pita’s legacy for many years to come!
