On October 3, 2018, my husband, Sgt. Terrence Carraway of the Florence Police Department, was shot and killed during an ambush that wounded six other officers. A 30-year police veteran and 23-year Air Force Reservist, he gave his life protecting others.
Terrence was more than a uniform. He was a mentor, a coach, a listening ear, and a trusted friend. He poured into young people through sports, guiding them with discipline and compassion. He showed up for people of all ages—celebrating in times of joy, and standing with them in sorrow. His presence made people feel seen, valued, and safe.
To honor his life of service, my family and I created the Terrence F. Carraway Foundation. We support families of fallen officers, help survivors navigate trauma, and build trust between law enforcement and the community. We continue the work Terrence loved—lifting others, guiding youth, and strengthening the bond between people and public service.
