The Exmoor Pony is one of the oldest native breeds in the UK. Surviving as free-living herds in the wild moorland of Exmoor National Park this iconic symbol of nature is classified as 'endangered' by the Rare Breeds Survival Trust. At the Moorland Mousie Trust we work to protect, promote and conserve the Exmoor Pony, rescuing unwanted moor-bred foals, saving them from slaughter and giving them a new life and home. Working with individuals, communities, and landowners we give our Exmoor Ponies a new life helping to improve the environment for nature, wildlife and people within conservation grazing projects and through equine therapy providing important mental and physical wellbeing for groups and individuals. Providing the animal welfare, care and training for ponies is expensive, costing over £150,000 each year for vet bills, feed, shelter and specialist training, so that each and every pony gets the care it needs. We rely heavily on individual donations to help us to look after the animals in our care and to sustain our Exmoor Pony Centre where people can get to know this wonderful native breed, enjoy a ride across the moor, and experience the healing benefits of time spent with these wonderful ponies.
