None of us have ever experienced times like these—the combination of a pandemic and economic crisis… The Free Clinics is truly on the front-line of this crisis. And we need your support during this unprecedented time. The Free Clinics provides care to some of the most vulnerable members of our community—low-income, uninsured, homeless, survivors of interpersonal violence, those addressing issues of substance use disorder. And during this time, our patients need our care; they need their prescriptions; they need to see providers; they need the support of our team. Since March, we have welcomed scores of newly unemployed and uninsured patients. Like the rest of our community, in mid-March, The Free Clinics rapidly changed every one of our services—every bit of the evolution with the goal of maintaining high quality care for our vulnerable patient population while also striving to keep patients, staff, and volunteers as safe as possible. We fully integrated telehealth into all our programs; we instituted curbside pick-up of medications. We also had to cancel our biggest fundraiser of the year. Our reality mirrors that of our community, country, and world—with rapid changes, social distancing, and cancelled gatherings. But our reality is also unique—because we are the safety net for thousands in our community with lower incomes, no insurance, and health needs. During this season when many businesses and nonprofits closed their doors, we threw our door open to give newly vulnerable persons access to the healthcare, medications, and support they need. Kerry was a patient of TFC for several years, attending the Bridges to Health program, receiving medications from the pharmacy, benefitting from the support of our Patient Health Advocate. And Kerry was a true success story—his health and behavioral health challenges addressed sufficiently that he found a wonderful job with a good salary and benefits. He proudly bid farewell to our team, with deep gratitude. During the last week of March, our pharmacist received a call from Kerry—would we call to have all his prescriptions transferred back to TFC? Due to COVID, Kerry lost his job and benefits. He knew he needed continued access to his medications… and he knew we were here to welcome him back and provide care. TFC will continue to play a vital role in healthcare in our community, especially for those who are newly neighbors in need. And we will very much need your support to continue to serve the thousands of vulnerable persons who rely upon us. I hope you will take the opportunity this year to invest in TFC’s care of our neighbors in need. We thank you tremendously for your support.
