The Charlie & Carter Foundation offers financial support to the families of children with life limiting conditions. Helping to relieve the financial burdens families face at the darkest of times and allowing parents to be with and care for their sick child at a time that matters most, doing so without the financial constraints and additional burdens which would mean some parents having to work and missing precious last moments with their brave child who will sadly live a short a short life. To date we have supported 121 families up to the cost of £3000 per family. We directly pay the mortgage/rent, gas, electric, water, provide food vouchers, basically help with everyday living expenses. We appreciate the needs of each family will vary; therefore, we work closely with them to see what support is going to relieve the most strain for that family. Sadly, all our families will have to say goodbye to their courageous child when their condition takes hold, at this stage we will offer a further £1000 bereavement support to the families because when this devastating time comes any support or benefits are withdrawn leaving the family financially unprepared. The charity was set up by Sarah and Chris Cookson, Charlie and Carters Parents, in memory firstly of their 1st son Charlie and then later sadly in Carters memory also. Sarah and Chris lost their first son Charlie at the age of 2 years old in 2013 and heartbreakingly lost their 2nd son Carter on 19th January 2019 at the age of just 25 days old. Both boys passed away with completely separate illnesses.
