Support the Soupman provides basic essential needs, in the form of food, bathing and clothing, New England's homeless population. Throughout the summer months, we travel from city to city and provide seasonally appropriate clothing, a shower, a lunch, and a backpack filled with essential toiletries. In the winter months, we provide hot soup, a lunch, seasonally appropriate clothes, jackets, boots, and backpacks filled with essential toiletries. Since the arrival of COVID-19, the demand for our services has expanded exponentially. Many facilities that normally provide outreach services to our most vulnerable population have been forced to close their doors. Meeting the sudden increase in demand of our services has had a financial impact on Support the Soupman. Throughout the summer, we personally delivered more than 13,000 meals to essential workers and our homeless citizens. Much of this was done out of pocket. Finally, Support the Soupman relieves some of the burden that is placed on our Emergency Rooms and walk-in healthcare facilities through our hygiene services. This winter season it is even more important that we reduce the number of ER visits, as our health facilities are being overwhelmed with the ongoing pandemic. We are also helping to reduce the spread of the coronavirus by supplying our homeless clients with masks, hand sanitizer, and liquid soap for frequent handwashing.
