About us
Soma anima arts (legal name: Kinesis Dance Society), formerly known as Kinesis Dance somatheatro, is a contemporary dance company based in Vancouver, on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Peoples. We honor their enduring presence and the rich cultures of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities.
Founded in 1986 by Paraskevas Terezakis, Kinesis Dance Society created over 40 impactful works, including Café Nocturne and ODDessay 114, presented across BC, Canada, and internationally. In 2023, leadership transitioned to Vancouver dancer and choreographer Rachel Helten, who began rebranding the company as Soma anima arts in 2024.
Soma anima arts creates transformative, interdisciplinary art that celebrates compassion, liberation, and community wellbeing. Collaborating across dance, visual arts, music, theatre, and more, we emphasize dynamic movement, deep meaning, and innovative storytelling. Committed to accessibility, inclusivity, and equity, we dismantle barriers and champion art's healing power.
Through community outreach, global collaborations, and bold artistic research, we foster connection and inspire personal and collective growth. Embracing vulnerability, empathy, and nature's poetry, we honor the diversity of human expression. By cultivating presence and transformation, we aim to awaken a renaissance of being, nurturing a more mindful, compassionate, and interconnected world.
