Bridges Domestic Violence Center
About us
Our Mission
Bridges Domestic Violence Center serves women, men, and their children affected by domestic violence, ensuring a safe transition to successful independent living through education, intervention, and case management. Our goal is to empower domestic violence survivors to become self sufficient members of the community. Our History
Bridges Domestic Violence Center, formerly known as Bridges of Williamson County,
was founded in 1998. The nonprofit organization began as an outreach program whose
purpose was to make a victim’s transition back into the community safe and successful.
Bridges acquired a room in the basement of a local church and began a food and clothing
closet for the women and children who were coming from shelter, beginning new lives
away from the cycle of violence. A weekly support group was also started.
A unique service was developed as the executive director of Bridges formed a collaboration
with our local police department. At their request, a Bridges staff member responded to
domestic violence calls, offering services and options to victims so they could make
informed choices about their futures. This collaboration is still in effect today.
In June 2000, Bridges opened a five-bed shelter in Williamson County. In October 2005,
Bridges moved to an expanded fifteen-bed shelter that allowed programming to grow.
Today, the shelter continues to serve women and children in Williamson County and
throughout the Middle Tennessee area who have been affected by domestic violence.
Bridges is staffed 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. The shelter continues to operate
at capacity.
