About us
The Gilman Senior Center opened in 1973 out of a small store when Gilman was a thriving Mill Town and over the years with the repeated opening and closing of the Paper Mills the Center cared for many Seniors, Families and employees of the mills. The Senior Center provided Meals on Wheels, Congregate Meals, secondhand store and weekly Bingo. In 2019 the building the Senior Center was in was closed and in 2023 our new Senior Center was opened with the same beliefs and brought back the Meals on Wheels, Community Meals and weekly Bingo. The Senior Center also houses our Local Food Pantry and is open for Essex County Residents two days monthly. The Senior Center offers a safe place for people to come when the temperature is high, or it is cold as we have a new Air Conditioning system and a warm space when it's cold out. A Chair Exercise Class, Book Club and Bingo are all active parts of our Senior Center. The Center also offers a community meeting space for families and groups that need an ADA accessible environment.
