About us

WHERE ARE WE NOW
Safe Paws Negril is fundraising to build a veterinary and grooming centre in Negril, Jamaica, in the parish of Westmoreland. We are a UK-registered charity number 1209793.

We secured land in 2023 and, since then, have been working with a local architect team to draw up plans to submit to all the local planning and environmental agencies concerned. We are now in the latter stages of this process. The Parish Council is finalising its consent after the drainage report has now been submitted.

ABOUT NEGRIL
Negril is situated on the westernmost tip of Jamaica. It is renowned by tourists as a paradise for its seven-mile beach. For animals, not so much. There is no veterinary clinic in Negril. There is a major stray-dog issue in the area, and for those needing a vet, it is an impossible task. Dogs and cats hit by cars normally die where they are hit, as there are no local vet centres. There are endless momma and pup situations living in awful conditions. That's if they survive. Poisoning is rife. By the time a dog is escorted to the nearest vet, they have suffered terribly or already passed away.

Safe Paws Negril wants to change all this. In September 2025, we started excavation of the land to prepare for the foundations. This will commence on April 27th 2026. This has been costly as the land slopes. The alternative is building high, which would not be practical for anyone working with injured animals.

Safe Paws will focus on veterinary, grooming, and hydrotherapy care. We want a one-stop shop for everything animal welfare. Services will include;

Microchipping
Pregnancy Scans
Canine Hydrotherapy Care
Grooming
Spay & Neuter clinics
Outreach programmes working closely with a local rescue
Fostering & adoption initiatives

We aim to be at the forefront of animal welfare in the Westmoreland parish. We have a mountain to climb.
