Kill shelters are heavily populated in the southern states in America. These states have a horrific dog overpopulation issue. There are too many dogs, and not enough homes, resulting in the shelters being overrun with animals. The ASPCA estimates that 10,000 dogs a day are euthanized in North America because of lack of space in shelters. Kill shelters become full very quickly when people don’t spay and neuter their pets. In Texas, most kill shelters will protect a healthy pet for 3 days (72 hours). If no one comes forward to claim the animal and there is not enough kennel space, these dogs are euthanized. It doesn't matter if the dog is 8 weeks old or 8 years old, healthy or not, friendly or scared - if they don't have space it will be put to death.

We aim to take dogs whose lives are on the line.

RDR was founded in February of 2020 by a small team of young ladies who wanted to do their part in decreasing the number of homeless dogs in Texas. In our first year we had set a goal to save 100 dogs. Before we knew it we had doubled that in our first 10 months.

One of our missions is to educate the public on the issues surrounding dog overpopulation and backyard breeding.
